How the i-Tree4UA project works in Ukraine: a short video

The i-Tree4UA project has been active in Ukraine since 2021. Its goal is to develop the i-Tree toolbox into an interactive, participatory, and transparent inventory system for green zones in both rural and urban areas across Ukraine. This system benefits local communities and the environment, addressing climate change threats.

During 2021-2022, the project carried out an inventory of green spaces in four pilot communities and parks in Kyiv: Sovski stavki, Osokorky, and Feofania.

Over 800 trees across 4.3 hectares were assessed for their ecosystem services with the help of more than 250 volunteers.

In 2023, two sessions of the All-Ukrainian i-Tree4UA Academy were held. Over 200 participants registered, including staff from national parks, scientists, university professors, teachers, local government representatives, NGO members, and activists.
The top graduates received 20 inventory kits and conducted green space inventories in their communities. A practical conference titled “Best Practices for Inventory, Care, and Protection of Trees in Ukrainian Communities Using i-Tree Tools” summarized the Academy’s work.

In 2024, we plan to launch an online all-Ukrainian i-Tree Academy and promote i-Tree tools in higher education.
